About Bonnie Kooken

Bonnie Kooken of Orenco, Oregon was a local historian by virtue of her support for the town of Orenco, Oregon and the many battles and land use matters she defended over a 50 year run there.  She was also head of the Orenco Neighborhood Organization.  Bonnie served on the Hillsboro Landmarks Advisory Committee and was a tireless supporter of all things history.  Her love of people and her community is almost without equal. She passed away Feb. 2nd, 2018 in Hillsboro, Oregon.    She sill be remembered forever through a Bench like the one seen here in the Orenco Woods Nature Park. In this 2017 Photo Bonnie sat for a photo for us on the bench of longtime Historian, writer, and Orenco resident Joan Krahmer.  RIP Friend.  Read a short post about Bonnie right here.

From our Hillsboro Mayor:  "I’ve never seen a stronger combination of sweet and tenacious. Kind and persistent. I treasured our friendship. When we broke ground for the park I made sure to stand by her to celebrate this with her. It was truly more than turning a shovel. She always thought of others first. And when OW Park was dedicated she was appreciated me acknowledging her part but was so very grateful that I remembered Joan Krahmer in my remarks too. Oh Dirk, what a loss. What a community treasure. Please keep me posted on her service. I’ll forward this to others who knew her through the city."
